Millions of Structured Settlements Every Year

Millions of Structured Settlements Every Year

In 2013 there were 4,628 fatal work injuries nation wide, according to results from the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Many of these ended up in court with a structured settlement for the deceased’s wife/husband or dependents.

In 2012 private industry employers reported more than 2.8 million, nonfatal workplace injuries.  How many of these ended up as structured settlements?

According to the Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Traffic Safety Facts” Research Notes newsletter, on November of 2013, an estimated 2.36 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2012.   How many of these injuries ended up as structured settlements?

The DOT reported 33,561 fatalities from vehicle crashes in 2012.  How many of these incidents ended up as structured settlements for the deceased’s dependents?

The bottom line here is that the courts nation wide are swamped with millions of structured settlements every year, equaling billions of dollars every year.

Not every single structured settlement is set up perfectly for the recipient, posing a great financial inconvenience.  Nor does the life of the holder of the structured settlement remain the same as it was at the beginning of the structured settlement, making the receipt of the payments inconvenient.

Thousands of people are selling their payment rights every year to better their lives.
